Achieving Africa’s developmental goals, including economic growth and equality, requires a rethink of energy policies and addressing the scale of energy poverty on the continent, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy shared in a thought-provoking message at the African Energy Week conference.

The minister set the stage for the conference in his opening remarks at the African Energy Week conference, held in Cape Town on 4- 8 November, and made a compelling address emphasising the critical role of energy access in Africa’s development. He highlighted that Africa’s minerals have the power to meet its energy needs as they have the ability to significantly drive the continent’s growth and development.
